Rut Santamaria

FLAMENCO SINGER, MADRID born in Madrid during October 1981, was raised in a large family surrounded by music and art, as her maternal grandmother dedicated her life dancing and singing in the most important venues of the capital.

Her older brother played piano in a self-taught way what inspired Rut to sing from a very early age, her dream was always becoming a singer.

At the age of 15, she began to spend lots of time composing music with her brother as well as forming the band “Banned direction” with the guitarist Jose Luis Cañas.
Aged 18, Rut received private singing lessons by the artist Arturo Fernandez, she then started to develop her career with professional musicians.
Raquel García, a profession colleague, invited her to collaborate with the group “En regalia” as a chorister, this would be the first time she performed in front of an audience during a tour in Madrid in the year 2000 and continuing until 2002.

After a couple of years, Rut was selected by her teacher, along her colleague Raquel to be part of the Rock & Roll group “Basico”, this boosted her career as a singer recording the album “Con sentido” produced by Avispa Records Company. Con Sentido’s tour took her to share the stage with artists like “Europe”, Deep Purple, Tide, Tahures Zurdos, Modestia apart and other nationally recognized artists, in addition to that she participated in several radio stations and presented the album in FNAC.

Her tremendous versatility led Rut to be the main voice in “singles” of electronic music singing in such a popular nightclubs as “La Fabric” or “Radical” selling thousands of copies throughout the Spanish territory.

In 2003 she joined the Madrid based orchestra “Banda Sur” having the opportunity to sing different styles as a soloist, during the next two years Rut visited more than 150 stages throughout the national territory. To be mentioned her appearance on the famous TV program “Madrid Directo” with “Banda Sur”.

After some time living and studying in Scotland, Rut returned to Spain with more enthusiasm than ever, she created the band “The Silver Rose” along the artist Diego Larotta, she continued to grow as an artist performing at different events in Madrid.
In 2008, Rut found new inspiration in Flamenco, what led her to work with flamenco artists in different places in Spain during the following three years.

On the Summer of 2012, Rut decided to travel to Sydney, Australia, to be part of “Flamenco del Mar” a Flamenco company directed by the dancer Marina Tamayo. The group performed at Adelaide Fringe Festival, Opera House Sydney or Picot Theatre in Tasmania as well as other theatres in New Zealand, Rut also performed weekly at the flamenco tablao “Alegrías” located in Sydney.

In 2017, Rut arrived in London, joining the artistic collective “Flamenco Soul” accompanying Jesus Olmedo and other artists in performances at Bafta Awards, Kino Teatr and other venues in the city of London. Rut feels very grateful to have been chosen by “Live Music Now” to be part of the flamenco band “Trovador” currently leading the Spanish culture to different corners of the English territory.
